Complete scenario rehearsal
A consumer reports that a shop display says “made locally,” while the product packaging names another place. A business representative says the label was provided by a supplier and asks you to confirm whether the shop has broken the law. How would you respond?

Reveal the worked response
I would explain that I cannot make a legal finding or promise an enforcement outcome. I would record the exact wording of the display and packaging, the product identifier, date and location, and distinguish what I personally observed from what the consumer or representative told me. I would ask for any supporting material through the appropriate process and record the representative’s explanation without treating it as proof or dismissing it. I would preserve the available material in the approved system and refer the inconsistency and both accounts to the authorised officer for assessment. I would use neutral language, avoid disclosing confidential case information and tell the parties only what I am permitted to share about the process. If further information is requested, I would identify the responsible contact or route rather than speculate. This keeps the record balanced and reviewable while leaving technical and legal conclusions to the proper authority.
