Complete scenario rehearsal
Separate a product claim from supporting evidence: in the worked exercise, which fact supports the answer, and what should remain unconfirmed?
Say your own answer before opening the example.
Reveal the worked response
A fictional toy label says “tested for ages 3+”. A customer says the package contained no test report. Worked answer: record the exact label claim and the customer’s account separately. The absence of a report in the package does not itself prove that no testing occurred. Identify what records would support the claim, which product and batch they cover, and what remains unknown. Do not conclude a breach or infer a power to obtain records from this short exercise. The task is to distinguish an allegation, a document and an unanswered question. In an interview, I would also explain which facts I observed directly, which came from another source, and which remain uncertain. I would follow the applicable instruction, make a traceable record, and pass any decision outside my authority to the designated supervisor. This keeps the response fair and reviewable while allowing the next colleague to continue from evidence.
Try the follow-up questions
- What evidence could change your conclusion?
- How would you hand the matter to the authorized decision-maker?
Check your answer
- Did I distinguish observation from inference?
- Can a colleague trace the source of each fact?
- Did I stay within my delegated authority?
