Complete scenario rehearsal
A fictional team briefing contains a confident recommendation, but its source notes conflict on one material time. The deadline is near and team members are waiting for your direction. How do you lead the review?

Reveal the worked response
I would first clarify what decision is required by the deadline and whether the conflicting time changes it. I would ask the briefing owner to identify the original sources, distinguish recorded fact from reported information and check the discrepancy through the appropriate process. I would not endorse a conclusion solely because the summary is confident. I would assign a clear owner for the check, set a short review point and tell the team what can proceed safely while the issue is examined, within established authority. If the decision depends on information that cannot be verified in time, I would explain that limitation and seek direction from the appropriate senior rather than conceal uncertainty. I would keep the reasoning and source trail reviewable, communicate the decision and responsibilities clearly, and ensure staff know whom to update. My role is to lead a fair, proportionate review and remain accountable for oversight; operational actions and powers must follow the applicable rules and command arrangements. Afterwards I would review whether the briefing and quality checks need improvement.
